Dolomites (Italy), Switzerland, Sloenia (Ljubliana)
Lucia and Greg took a 5 week trip in late August 2024 to the Italians Dolomites (staying in Mals, or Malles Venosta in Italian), then Zurich, Ljubliana (Slovenia), the Italia towns of Triese, Gubbio, and Assisi, and then a 3-day layover in Rekyavik, Iceland on the way back. And finally, an overnight stop in Portland to see or friend Mike on the way back home.
Some highlights of the trip were Greg biking up the Stelvio Pass (twice; once from the Italian Prato side and once from the Swiss side), one night in Zurick (possible the most expensive city in the world), an overnight train trip from Zurich to Slovenia, a day in beautiful capital of Ljubliana, a few days in the Trieste and then Gubbio, and staying in a convent in Assisi. After this, we flew from Rome to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik, where we soent 3 nights and went on a tour of the surrounding natural areas, including waterfalls, hot springs, and glaciers. Finally we flew from Iceland to Portland, there we visited with Mike and then flew back to Boise. It was a great trip, but a reminder that 5 weeks is a long time to be away from home! Some photos of the trip are below.
